Colorado is located in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. The Rocky Mountains, often called the “Rockies”, are a major mountain range in western North America. The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles) from the northernmost part of Canada to New Mexico.
Colorado is unique in that it has the highest mean altitiude of all the states. Mount Elbert has the highest altitude reaching 14,440 feet and the lowest is the Arikaree River at only 3,315 feet. So, don't forget to stay hydrated! The centerpieces of the Colorado Rockies are the peaks over 14,000 feet called “Fourteeners”, as they are affectionately named by climbers, and there are 52 Fourteeners throughout the state. Colorado has the reputation for being a state of very active and athletic people who enjoy the outdoor lifestyle - keeping in line with Epic Summer!
